IAS students shooting the lights out at the SAICA and ICAN 2026 IAC examinations

The Institute of Accounting Science (IAS) would like to acknowledge and celebrate the sterling performa

nce of two of our alumni in the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia (ICAN) Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) examinations. This along with the performance of the cohort as a whole evidences the strength that the student body is showing in the standard setting exams. The cumulative success of IAS students on the IAC board exams is currently running at a 96% success rate after the 6 attempts students are allowed after completing our PGDA programme.

A special congratulations goes to the spectacular performance of Rebecca van Helsdingen in the January 2026 ICAN IAC where she placed in the top 5 students in the country. This is a massive achievement and we congratulate her on her impeccable performance.

This was followed by a stellar performance by Rivka Gita Orkin who achieved a pass with honours in the 2026 June SAICA IAC, the only candidate to do so in the country for the exam sitting. A huge congratulations to her for her outstanding achievement.

Both of these achievements as well as the overall performance of the cohorts are a source of great pride for IAS and demonstrate the value of sustained effort, strong academic preparation and a commitment to professional development. These outstanding results reflect not only the dedication, discipline and perseverance of the students themselves, but also the Institute’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and to providing a high-quality accounting education that prepares students for success in the profession.

Excellence recognised on a national stage

The SAICA and ICAN IAC examinations are standard setting examinations which students are required to pass in their journey to becoming Chartered Accountants. Candidates are presented for the examination by 19 endorsed Universities and Institutions in the country, one of which is the Institute of Accounting Science.

The Institute of Accounting Science is committed to continue helping their students to outperform in the IAC examinations, and also to build them into successful and top-rated global professionals.
